MONDAY, AUGUST 19TH Romans 12:6 (NKJV)

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.”
It’s really neat to look back and see what God was doing in my life while I was hustling to make a living. I spent 30 years as a high school history and economics teacher but while I was researching, preparing lesson plans and grading essays, God was helping me hone the skills that I am using today in retirement.
This week marks four years since I began to write for the local newspaper. Numerous people have stopped by, called me or sent a note of appreciation, saying that reading my columns brightens their day. Although I started out just wanting to help support our local newspaper, the writing has become a way to connect with people, a way to bring a smile as they anticipate the future or recall memories of the past.
Choosing to accept God’s precious gift of salvation is just the first step in your new life in Christ. God created you for more—a life of purpose. And just as He created us uniquely, he also has planned unique opportunities for us to serve, using those gifts He has given us. Different kinds of grace, with different forms of expression, are given to each individual. Each of us should exercise our own gift where it is needed and according to how we have been equipped—and do it well.
Prayer: Lord, help me to discover and develop the unique gifts You have given me and reveal to me those unique opportunities where I can use those gifts to serve and be a blessing to others.
