TUESDAY, AUGUST 20TH Galatians 5:13-14

Dive to the Bottom by: Paula McKee

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.  For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

My girls seemed to be thinking “I could do that too” as they watched their cousins dive for the rings at the bottom of the deep end of the pool. Some in the church are diving into the deep end when it comes to service. Are you watching as they serve: greeters, teachers, musicians, office workers, lawn mowers note writers? I notice them and often think, “I could do that, too.” I have received blessings from teaching Sunday school and coaching Upward and writing devotionals.  I listen for the gentle nudging of God when He puts signs before me, urging me to speak or act in obedience. The times that I ignore the nudging leave me full of regret because if Jesus could go to the cross for me, I know I could do more  The two things I long to hear when I get to heaven are “Well done, good and faithful servant” and “Thank you for giving to the Lord.”  Is it time for you, like me, to dive in all the way to the bottom? Maybe you just want to get your feet wet. Whatever the case, listen for that still small voice (1 Kings 19:13) and know that “you can do that too.” 🙂
