You Can Do It: by Chris Blacksmith
“Just as the body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one spirit so as to form one body whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free and we were all given the one spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”
Ava Lewis, a 3 year old in North Carolina started a sidewalk business selling lemonade. When asked what she wanted to do with her money she replied, “I want to help babies.” Her plan was to buy baby supplies like diapers, and bottles for those in the community who are in need. The people of Durham got behind Ava and have helped her reach her goal. In order for us to become a servant of others we will have to follow the example of Ava and look beyond ourselves so we might see the needs of others. That’s exactly what the body of Christ is supposed to do. Casting Crowns has a song that says, “If we are the body why aren’t His arms reaching, why aren’t His hands healing, why aren’t His words teaching; and if we are the body why aren’t His feet going, why is His love not showing them there is a way? Jesus paid much too high a price for us to pick and choose who should come…” The reason why most people aren’t serving and reaching out is because we tend to look at what we can’t do or won’t do instead of looking at what God can do and what God wants to do in and through us. I firmly believe that our responsibility to respond to God’s ability. If we will simply do that we will be able to, “…do all things through Christ who strengthens…” us. Let’s begin a life of service today by saying I can do it.
