FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH Deuteronomy 5:33

“Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.”
This “Guardrail” series by our Pastor is so good. The Bible is full of practical advice for how the believer is to live their lives so that they honor God and live in harmony with God and others. In Deuteronomy God wanted his people to know that obedience held a promise of prosperity. Not the material prosperity that the “Prosperity Gospel” preachers preach but a prosperity of our Spiritual lives. The key is “obedience”! See guardrails only work if the person they are intended for make the conscious choice to stay on the right side of the protective barrier. At scenic overlooks they have a fence. There is usually a warning that says don’t cross the barrier. But how many times have we heard of someone or a couple who have fallen to their death trying to get close to the edge to take a selfie?!?! The insane thing is that the view on the protective side of the fence is just as beautiful and breathtaking, but people always think they can get a better shot. This is why Solomon giving advice to his son said “Lean not to your own understanding ….” We just think that no matter how many warnings and guardrails God puts in our way, we know best. But we don’t. We need to surrender, obey, and live in the protection that God has provided through the wisdom of His Word.
