MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH Ephesians 5:12-15
Pay Attention by: Paula McKee
“It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise…”
I stumped my toe often when I was a kid. Our hardwood floors had raised thresholds between rooms. I’d be lost in thought and BAM! Even today, I whack my toe on the leg of a bed. I know it’s there; you’d think I’d learn. I mess up in life like that. I go on autopilot, not praying and reading my Bible for days, and sometimes the days turn into a week or more before I “stump my toe.” I get into a silly argument; I watch an unedifying (real word? Nonedifying? BAD!) show on Netflix; I think jealous thoughts about a friend. God gets my attention in some way, and I go running back to the safety of his “guardrails.” If I’d only stay there. You’d think I’d learn.
Prayer: Thank you, dear heavenly Father, for giving me your word to keep me safe. Thank you for sending Jesus to be my intercessor and my example for living. Please forgive me when I fail to act wisely and strengthen me to act wisely and glorify you in all I do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
